GET THE HAMPTON LOOK
Hampton Style Decorating and Design
COLOUR PALETTE
A true Hamptons home should have a lovely subdued colour palette. Blues are very popular so keep them in the grey tones and quite muted. The colour of beach sand also works well. The overall feeling should be relaxed, that’s what the Hamptons experience is all about.
WALLS, FLOORS AND WINDOWS
If you prefer a more formal look and your home is more traditional in style, opt for darker timber floors, with some lovely rugs. Combine this with some classic antique pieces. Curtains can be natural fabrics and kept structured and simple but they can also be a way of introducing colour and flair.
Floorboards can be painted white for a more casual look.
White timber shutters can be considered for windows or wide timber venetians or roman blinds.
Do not over-decorate when using curtains. Stay with natural linen fabrics.
LIGHTING
Lighting should be clean and classic. Candelabras painted white with linen shades or for a contempory look, large drum shades can be used.
ESSENTIAL PIECES
Beds always look great with an upholstered bedhead and this offers a way to introduce pattern and colour. Painted timber or bleached timber beds also work. For furniture, keep it natural and stay away from highly polished surfaces. Wood tones should be inspired by the sea with timber the colour of driftwood in pale, natural tones. White painted furniture is lovely but don’t use too much of it as it can become boring and clinical.
Clutter should be avoided at all costs.
Keep it open, fresh, clean and fun!
